Gallup Poll: Conservatives Maintain Edge as Top Ideological Group

Late last week, Big Media was practically wetting itself over a survey that showed Republican party identification is at its lowest point in decades. As usual, Big Media's analysis did not demonstrate a true understanding of what the numbers meant. A recent Gallup Poll frames the nation's political temperature more clearly.

Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This marks a shift from 2005 through 2008, when moderates were tied with conservatives as the most prevalent group.

Big Media may see this as contradictory, but the two sets of numbers make perfect sense. One uncomfortable and inconvenient truth that Big Media has tried to ignore during the Tea Party uprisings and Town Hall discussions was that the increasingly vocal Patriots are rooted in ideas, not party politics. During the September 12 March on Washington, I saw thousands upon thousands of signs, bumper stickers and t-shirts, but only one that was overtly GOP. That was one guy who was working the street trying to sign folks up for the Republican Party. Real America is disgusted with corrupt politicians, Constitutional infidelity and partisan hacks who have zero respect for the American people (for example, the kind of people who keep changing the name of nationalized healthcare to various euphemisms in hopes of finding one that sounds respectable).

Conservatism is on the ascent. Many Republicans realize they have lose their way, but many have not. Some want to play the same political games as they have played in the past. Some want to give half-measures of socialist programs to appear "bipartisan." A few haven't been paying attention since last election day and still want to hitch their wagon to the O-Train.

We The People have risen up and are in the process of re-establishing the GOP as the Conservative party. In recent years, I have found I am more likely to call myself an independent than a Republican because of the party's recent sorry state. Many others have abandoned the label for similar reasons. So, when GOP identification falls it doesn't mean Americans are less Conservative. To the contrary, it means there is a growing group of folks who demand that the Republican Party stand on principle and fight to defend the Constitution and individual liberty. According to Gallup, there's a change in the air.

Marco Rubio Is Conservatism's Only Hope In Florida

The Republican race for the state's 2010 U.S. Senate election is a living symbol of the on-going fight for the party's soul. The blue-blood, country-club, establishment Republicans support Florida governor Charlie Crist. If you aren't familiar with Crist, think of Arlen Specter crossed with George Hamilton. The big difference is that Crist is even more of a political opportunist. Elizabeth Meinecke's piece in Human Events provides a primer on Crist's political "philosophy" as compared to his challenger, Marco Rubio:

A diluted Republican message is the watermark of Rubio's Republican primary opponent Charlie Crist, the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s anointed
candidate in the race. Crist campaigned around Florida supporting President Obama’s “stimulus” spending spree and, after an “environmental summit” last
year, proposed his own version of a “cap-and-trade” plan which the state legislature rejected.

“The United States does not need two Democratic parties,” Rubio insists, and, despite the Democrats’ stranglehold in both the House and the Senate, the makeup of Republicans who did get elected proves Rubio’s point. The group of conservatives in the U.S. House -- known as the Republican Study Committee -- now has 113 members, which means it represents well over half the total GOP (177) members in the House...

...“I think next year’s elections, especially in the Republican primaries, are going to be a lot like a political Halloween,” Rubio said. “A lot of people are going to come dressed to the party like conservatives, but in fact, in the real…world, they haven’t been that, not in a principled way.

It’s exactly the kind of race Republican ‘leaders’ like the NRSC (not to mention the chairman of the Republican party in Rubio’s own state) are saying Rubio can’t win, and exactly the reason why Rubio is running -- because he sees a disconnect between party leaders and constituents. For example, Rubio says the majority of Americans don’t want to see their government adapting a Western European style invasion into the economy.

One thing that has been clear at the Tea Party events I have attended, including the Million Patriot March in D.C., is that grass roots Conservatives are as angry with phony Republicans as they are with Leftist Democrats. Simply placing an (R) after the name does not impress the revived political awareness of Real America. True Conservatives who will legislate on principle are valued. Polished politicians with no soul can keep moving.

Can Rubio win? All indications are that he can, as discussed by George Will in The Washington Post. However, whether Rubio or Crist is likelier to win the Florida seat is irrelevant. Crist's loyalty to Conservatism will be based on the most recent poll. If the political winds dictate, he will support the Democrats at every turn. When Republicans support Leftist/Statist legislation, they give legitimacy to those who disrespect the Constitution and the American people. The RINOs are the reason the GOP took a beating in 2006 and 2008. The last thing Republicans need to do is elect more.

Big Media Whines About Sarah Palin's Farewell Speech

Sarah Palin gave her farewell speech as Governor of Alaska on Sunday and, of course, the focus on the speech was her smackdown of Big Media. Don't get me wrong, they deserved the smackdown and their response proves they still don't get it. From Palin's speech:

And first, some straight talk for some, just some in the media because another right protected for all of us is freedom of the press, and you all have such important jobs reporting facts and informing the electorate, and exerting power to influence. You represent what could and should be a respected honest profession that could and should be the cornerstone of our democracy. Democracy depends on you, and that is why, that's why our troops are willing to die for you. So, how 'bout in honor of the American soldier, ya quit makin' things up.

Big Media has been apoplectic since those words passed her lips. "How dare she question them?" "What did we do to her?" "We just report the news." Not a word is said as Barry Vladimir Hussein Soetero Obama attacks FoxNews, talk radio, and Conservative pundits. However, when Sarah Palin challenged the credibility of Big Media all hell broke loose. In their eyes, it isn't a lie unless they choose to report it (just ask Dan Rather).

In Big Media's insulated echo chamber, they all dislike Palin because she didn't go to the right schools, doesn't represent socialist ideology, and doesn't pander to the political and social elites. Katie, Wolf, "Stretch Gregory, Stephanopolous, Brian, Charlie and the rest of the arrogant talking heads can sneer at Palin and her supporters, but those are the people who are no longer watching those slimey blowhards. REAL Americans don't care what these news readers think of Palin or of them. Flyover America gets it. They know CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, and MSNBC newscasts have all the legitimacy of a Vince McMahon-produced WWE program. The fix is in and has been for a long time. Big Media has become a dutiful wing of the DNC. They just repeat what Rahmbo and the Family Guy tell them to say.

While flipping channels and listening to some of the discussion panels a comical pattern of irony developed. One after another, these snobbish clowns trashed Palin for whining about her treatment. Read the text of the speech and judge for yourself how much of it was "whiny." But, they immediately jumped into how unfair her attacks on the media are and how paranoid she is. The buzzword of the Monday morning faxes from the DNC to Big Media must have been "Nixonian." They accused her of sniveling while they moaned about how they just do their job and attacks on them are a return to the days of Tricky Dick and Spiro.

I have written several posts about Palin, so one might get the idea I am in her corner for 2012. They would not be accurate. She certainly understands conservatism. She understands American history and the U.S. Constitution. She understands the American values that still matter in Flyover America, if not in the newsrooms of Big Media. Real Americans are drawn to Sarahcuda. She is one of us. This is especially appealing nine months after we elected a community organizer who does not appreciate American values, is not very bright, and who is attempting to foist every failed policy in human history on my country. He is not one of us; he is a Marxist.

Palin may or may not be the future of the GOP. However, her brand of Conservatism is our only hope. She gets it. Prissy David Frum may think Republicans should always position themselves one step to the right of the Democrats no matter how far to the Left they try to take the country. That is irresponsible, dangerous and politically stupid. The Republican Party needs to be an alternative for those who believe in the Constitution, the rule of law, limited government, individual responsibility, the sovereignty of states and ideals recorded in our Declaration of Independence. If folks want Marxism, they will vote Democrat. The disconnect between the 2006 and 2008 election returns and polls relating to key issues tell the story. America is a Conservative country. The Republican Party abdicated the high ground on so many issues because no matter how many elections they won, they governed as though they had to please Democrats.

Big Media will continue to hate Sarah Palin. That is because they hate the American people. They will never say it, but they see us as a bunch of hayseeds who listen to country music, eat at buffets and prefer pick-up trucks to Priuses. They are the elites and they can't understand why the rabble doesn't just listen to them and do as they are told. They built a celebrity-type groundswell to elect Barry Vladimir Hussein Soetero Obama. It was hype not hope. Palin represents the real hope of Real Americans.

Saran Palin Resigns Governorship; Still Conservative Superstar

Sarah Palin's resignation announcement was definitely a surprise. Of course, her explanation made perfect sense. It is interesting that she had popularity numbers in the 80 percent range before she became the vice-presidential candidate for RATA (Reach Across The Aisle) McCain. They are still in the 50s despite the incessant attacks, most of which are coming from outside Alaska.

Palin is the biggest political star in the Conservative movement. There is speculation of a U.S. Senate run or competing for the 2012 GOP nomination. Some are saying she is done with politics. That still leaves some interesting possibilities.

Sarahcuda is a magnetic personality. The Left already knew her credentials before she was chosen as the VP candidate. That is why they stormed Alaska like it was Omaha Beach the next day. The attacks on Palin began immediately and have not ceased. They don't hate her because she is dense or corrupt. She is neither and they know it. She is, however, a strong and accomplished woman whose resume' is thick and who is a strong and articulate Conservative. She also does not back down from the jackals' attacks. If she were truly the flighty nobody they portray, they would not waste so much time and effort vilifying her. She is a real threat to their ideology.

Palin was the energy in the RATA McCain campaign. McCain's best selling point up to then was that he wasn't Barry Vladimir Hussein Soetero Obama. As soon as the people out in flyover country became acquainted with her, they fell in love. Not in the "hopey, changey" glazed-over manner of the Obama-bots; this was a woman who truly represents their values and point-of-view. She was not an elitist insider. These are the kind of folks who smell phony from a mile away. This woman was one of them.

Sarah Palin is not finished with public life. Dropping the constraints of public office will give her greater flexibility for her next stage. Family, of course, will be a huge part of her priorities. One need not hold public office to be a leader. As she has done her whole adult life, she will serve the public while taking care of her family. My hunch is that she will speak out for Alaska's energy resources and the need for allowing them to be tapped for America's energy future. At least in the short run, she can work on that issue which is of importance to her and her state as well as the rest of the country. From there, who knows.

One more hunch: the Left will continue to blindly hate Sarah Palin and do all they can to smear her. Unfortunately for them, the only folks buying that song are their fellow Leftist cretins. Real America recognizes a Real Woman, a Real Patriot, and a Real Leader.

Roanoke Independence Day Tea Party--Be Heard (Or At Least Seen)

Check the Roanoke Tea Party site for the latest on Saturday's rally in Elmwood Park in Roanoke, Virginia. Constituents of the 5th and 9th district should especially show their displeasure with Representatives Tom Perriello and Rick Boucher for selling out their futures to Leftwing special interests in the Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade bill. If it does pass the Senate, Cap-and-Trade will have to again go through the House as a conference bill. Let Perriello and Boucher know they need to reconsider supporting the biggest tax increase in American history.
