Nullification 2010: We Refuse! | Tenth Amendment Center

Despite the hatchet job that the principle of nullification receives in most history books, the idea is one that was endorsed by the Thomas Jefferson (author of The Declaration of Independence) and James Madison ("Father of the Constitution"). Though the typical history or government instructor will falsely tell children that "states rights" and "nullification" are simply euphemisms for slavery, segregation and racism, the truth is that the maxim was used by northerners to reject enforcement of federal fugitive slave laws prior to the War of the Rebellion. It is time for state governments to reclaim their position in the federal system and wave a giant foam middle finger in the direction of the Kremlin on the Potomac. Read more at: We Refuse!
